Dominique di Piazza

Born:
Dominique di Piazza, who resides in France, is of Sicilian origin and was raised by his gypsy stepfather, a heritage that would influence his musicality in later years. He played both guitar and bass for a period of time, and after hearing the infamous Jaco Pastorius in 1979 decides to focus strictly on the bass, and not long after starts finding the unique voice he becomes very well known for.
Being a self taught musician, he immediately started developing his own style of playing, and by the early '80s had refined his signature right hand approach. It began by using the thumb, index, and middle finger instead of the traditional two finger approach, and that move gave birth to the four finger technique which is used as a secondary technique by many of the top players in the world

Abstract Truth

Abstract Truth lives on the edge of classification, weaving jazz with soul, R&B, African and Latin rhythms, rock, gospel, blues, and funk. The musical foundation is the subtle, masterful interplay of the drums (Sultan Akbar), percussion (Rajul) and bass (the band’s founding member, G. Lawrence Francis). On top of that groove the horn (Jesse Andrus) and keys (Scott Coulter) create a rich, vibrant and complex melodic and harmonic world echoing everything from straight ahead jazz to rock. Borrowing from this rich tapestry of musical traditions, Abstract Truth manages to create a sound that is at once fresh and familiar, honoring the masters who came before them, while creating a sound all their own

Lee Sklar has been a prominent figure among Hollywood session bassists dating back to the 1970's and ever since. Sklar has more than 2,500 albums to his credit (and still counting), and is considered to be one of the "A" players in the highly selective L.A. music community where the competition for recording dates is fierce, and where only the strongest will survive. His very recognizable bass playing style has been heard on hits by Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Hall & Oates, Jackson Browne, Phil Collins, Clint Black, Reba McEntire, Billy Cobham, and George Strait, to name just a few. He’s a bass icon " as famous for his foot-long beard as he is for his rich, deep-pocketed grooves. Since the ’70s, Lee Sklar has been in constant demand for both studio sessions and live performances. His résumé reads like a Who’s Who. Lee didn’t rise to the top of the bass world by spraying notes all over songs " although he can surely do so when called upon
