Verdine White

Born: July 25, 1951

Verdine White is the bassist for Earth, Wind & Fire and the younger brother of band founder Maurice White. White is known for his high energy and dancing while playing his bass guitar during Earth, Wind & Fire concerts. Verdine was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 25, 1951. His father, Verdine Sr., was a doctor who also played the saxophone. He grew up listening to recordings of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, and other jazz musicians. He was also influenced by his two drummer brothers, Fred and Maurice White and by the "Motown sound and the Beatles. When he was 15, he saw a Double bass in his high school orchestra class and then decided that he wanted to play bass. He soon got a red electric bass and taking the advice of Maurice and his father took private lessons from Radi Velah of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, learning the Bille double bass method[clarification needed] and on weekends he learned the electric bass with Chess Records session bassist and trombonist Louis Satterfield, who would later become a member of Earth, Wind & Fire’s famed horn section, The Phenix Horns

Abraham Laboriel

Born: July 17, 1947

Abraham Laboriel is a world renowned bassist and the founder of the band KOINONIA. He was born and raised in Mexico City where he received his earliest musical training from his father, a gifted guitarist and composer. His first recording was at age 10 as part of a "rock and roll" group called "Los Traviesos". After performing in Mexico thru his teen years as both a musician and an actor, he moved to Boston where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Composition from the Berklee School of Music in 1972. During that time he recorded with faculty member, famed vibraphonist Gary Burton. He traveled with Johnny Mathis, Michel Legrand, and Henry Mancini and moved to Los Angeles in 1976 to begin a very diverse and fruitful studio recording career. He has performed and recorded with many jazz artists including George Benson, Larry Carlton, the Crusaders, Ella Fitzgerald, Dave Grusin, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Al Jarreau, John Klemmer, Manhattan Transfer, Joe Pass, Joe Sample, Lalo Shifrin, Diane Schuur, Sara Vaughan, and Joe Zawinul

Arthur Sadowsky

Born: November 3, 1967

Arthur Sadowsky is now considered one of the top electric bass players on the New York scene. Currently, he is performing, composing, arranging and the musical director of 'Arthur Sadowsky & The Troubadours' regularly gigging in Manhattan. 'The Troubadours' perform a modern vision of classic jazz that is stimulating to the jazz enthusiast while at the same time very melodically pleasing to the casual music lover. Born and raised in the icy tundras of the USSR Arthur was surrounded by music and art from a very young age and knew this was going to be a life-long passion. Studying Russian classical music throughout his childhood it wasn’t until the age of 14 when he heard the music of Joe Zawinul that his life would change forever

Joan Torres

Bassist and composer Joan Torres has lead the Jazz Fusion ensemble All Is Fused since 2011. With 3 albums released to date, multiple award nominations, and the Vox Pop award for the Fusion Album category of the 14th Annual IMAs, the ensemble has been described as going "far beyond complex musical ideas managing to weave in a true sonic narrative" in their music (Music News 2016). Throughout several releases they have appealed to genre and non-genre fans alike. Louis de Mieulle

Paris born bassist-composer Louis de Mieulle started his musical education at 7, playing the cello. Rebellion through rock’n’roll bass guitar. Eventually graduated from the National Conservatory of Paris (classical writing). In 2006, won a composition contest in Tours (Fr) with the opera “Tres Para Una”, co-written with Augustin d’Assignies and Edward Greaves. Moved to the Land of Donald to attend the Berklee College of Music. Now between NYC leading his own band, and France as a member of Moonsüün. 2011: first solo album “Defense Mechanisms”. Recorded in Brooklyn with Berklee comrades Matt Garstka (drums) and Casimir Liberski (piano)

Alessandro Stellano

Born: July 24, 1985

Bass player/Composer, born in Cercola in 1985, under the sign of Leo. As a child he comes into contact with the music through the family enviroment. Neverthless he takes an interest in playing the bass only in his late teens. He begins as a self-taught, but later decides to improve his studies at the 'OrangeBug Accademy' under the guidance of Diego Imparato, he also takes part to the courses of ensamble music with Luca Gianquitto and Gianluca Brugnano. Crucial is the acquaintance with the young singer- songwriter, Gabriele Aprile. Together with him and with his cousin and music fellow, Vincenzo Di Girolamo, co-founds the group 'April Fools' in 2004

At the time of writing this, Ricky and his wife had just been blessed with their first child, a baby boy called Liron Lukhachi. Baba Liron is a great soul, a wonderful bassist and a man who can be relied on to speak his mind in truth, honesty and no malice. He joined the band in 2005 and has made a most significant contribution! Born Patrick Enos Lukhachi Nanjero, in Nairobi on 8 October 1980, Ricky is a great lover of all things musical, laughter and ugali or busuma. Ernest Barteldes

Born: February 24, 1968

Born in Muskegon, Michigan, Ernest Barteldes started out playing in rock bands in Fortaleza, Brazil. Though his first instrument was the clarinet, he gravitated to guitar and percussion but eventually settled on the electric bass. Over the years he played various genres, and after relocating to New York he started performing with a Beatles tribute band. After that project came to an end, he experimented with a blues duo (playing guitar) and then retreated from the music scene for several years except for a weekly gig at The Church of Our Lady of Pompeii, where he still performs every Sunday. While away from the stages, Ernest went behind the scenes and built a career as a music critic covering jazz, Latin, Brazilian and dance for various publications, including AAJ He always had a passion for Brazilian music, and after a friend suggested forming a bossa band, he threw himself into this new project as bassist, vocalist and songwriter.

Over a lengthy professional career, Charlie Hoats has had the privilege of performing with Rick Margitza, Marvin Stamm, Gunnar Mossblad, Marcus Roberts, Denis DiBlasio, Gene Bertoncini, Phil Keaggy, Claudio Roditi, Chris Vadala, Jack Wilkins, Jimmy Bruno, Clay Jenkins, Kim Richmond, Christian Howes, Sunny Wilkinson, Ray Kaczinski, Danny Draher, The Butterfat Trio, Walt Weiskopf, Edye Evans Hyde, Melvin Rynes, Michael Brecker, and many others. Additional performance experience includes the National Touring Company of Grease; regional productions of Pump Boys and Dinettes, Ten November, Beehive, and other small- and large- scale musicals; and numerous performances with local and regional jazz, blues, and pop groups

Jerry Jemmott

Born: March 22, 1946

Born in the Bronx, New York in 1946, this two time Grammy Award-wining bassist was one of the pre-eminent session bassists of the late 1960s and early 1970s, working with an impressive cross section of the era's finest soul, jazz and blues artists. One of the youngest of the many jazz musicians to come out the Bronx during the 1950s, Jerry Jemmott found his way to prominence on acoustic bass with Pucho & The Latin Soul Brothers and the Mercer Ellington Orchestra. He switched to electric bass in 1964 and shaped his skills to eventually join many of his heroes in the recording studios of New York City. He played on and arranged his first major recording sessions with JJ Jackson and played on Nina Simone's 'The Blues' album in 1965. He got his big break when he was discovered by Rhythm 'n Blues/Jazz saxophonist King Curtis, and thanks to his Atlantic Records connection through Curtis he subsequently became a key architect of the Atlantic Records and Muscle Shoals Sound. Jerry has been a performer since the age of five, starting as a tap dancer with Mary Bruce’s Star Buds, in Harlem, where he performed at Carnegie Hall in their annual review
