Richard Simon
Born:
Richard left a comfortable position as a college English instructor to pursue the perilous life of a jazz bassist. He received instruction from the LA Philharmonic's Abe Luboff, jazz legend Red Callender, and crossover virtuoso John Clayton, and soon began working with Buddy Collette, Teddy Edwards, Plas Johnson and Art Hillery. Singers dig him too; he has worked frequently with Ernie Andrews, Maxine Weldon, Lorez Alexandria and Sue Raney, and occasionally with Keely Smith, Maria Muldaur, and Rosemary Clooney. From be-bop and mainstream jazz, he branched out into "trad" and swing, playing festivals with the likes of Dan Barrett, Ed Polcer, Allan Vache, Rebecca Paris, and Joe Ascione

Ed Fuqua
Born:
My first exposure to music was as a first grader, my mom got me some accordion lessons. That didn't last long, I managed to avoid music until high school, where I got my first exposure to playing jazz tunes and improvising over form, as well as learning to read music. I did the usual high school/ college thing of playing electric bass in rock to fusion bands while taking "classical" theory and harmony at the local college . Until I met a guitar player who uttered the fateful words "Didja ever hear any Clifford Brown?" which got me at least listening to more straight ahead music (and some acoustic "free-bag"), if not actually playing more straight ahead

Al Cardillo
Born:
I'm am one of the prime organizers of jazz on Long Island (New York). I have several different venues which I organize gigs for. Being a music educator on the Island does not allow me to travel freely, so instead of going on the road with varies jazz artists, I invite them to come to Long Island and work with me. Many top jazz artist have traveled out to perform with me (see web site for news features and lists of musicians). I have the most comprehensive list of Long Island and Queens jazz fans in the area. My gigs have been compared alongside most quality jazz gigs in Manhatten (without and expensive cover charge)
