Time Out

Time Out is a group of highly accomplished High School musicians from York County, PA. In 2006 they began playing in small group ensembles at Inspire! Studio of the Arts in Jacobus, PA., under the direction of Curt Sipe. In the summer of 2009, when they were 12 years old, they began working together as Time Out. Since that time they have written 10 original songs, available on 2 CDs, MMIX and Time Travel. Time Out has opened for Grammy nominated pianist, Eldar Djangirov and played at many festivals and local venues in the PA area. They have studied with Anthony Wellington and continue to be coached by Curt

The Brett Sandler Trio

The Brett Sandler Trio was formed in 2010 when band leader and pianist Brett Sandler began writing original material that didn’t fit the traditional straight ahead Jazz idiom. Brett’s material quickly gained attention and praise from other players in the Hofstra college music scene which prompted him to form a trio to play his ever increasing library of original tunes. Joining Brett on drums is Adam Pin, a fellow Hofstra University Musician whom Brett had played with quite frequently over their college career. Rounding out the line up is Peter Longofono on Electric Bass. In early 2011 The Brett Sandler Trio went into the studio to record their first self produced EP.

Brian Carpenter’s Ghost Train Orchestra

The Ghost Train Orchestra was founded in 2006 by composer/arranger Brian Carpenter. That year Carpenter was hired as the musical director for Voltaic Vaudeville, an event marking the 90th anniversary of the historic Regent Theater in Arlington, MA. He selected five composers from a transitional time and place in America: the late 1920s Chicago and Harlem, when the jazz orchestra was being developed by bandleaders such as Fletcher Henderson, Don Redman, Tiny Parham, Fess Williams, and Charlie Johnson. Carpenter began transcribing the parts from old 78s and arranged the music for a 9-piece ensemble to back performers on stage

The Beach Boys

The Beach Boys are an iconic pop and rock music group formed in Hawthorne, California, United States in 1961, who are widely considered to be one of the most influential bands in rock and pop music history. They have recorded dozens of Top 40 hits (including four US #1 singles), many best-selling albums, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. The original group comprised singer-musician-composer Brian Wilson, his brothers Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, friend Al Jardine, and David Marks. Many changes in both musical style and personnel have occurred in their sometimes-stormy career: Brian Wilson’s mental illness, drug addiction and eventual withdrawal from the group; the deaths of Dennis Wilson in 1983 and Carl Wilson in 1998; and continuing legal battles among surviving members of the group. The Beach Boys officially broke up in 1998 shortly after Carl Wilson’s death, however Mike Love and Bruce Johnston maintain the rights to the name and continue to tour with their own band as The Beach Boys. The group was formed under the leadership of Brian Wilson, and included his brothers Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love and school friend Al Jardine. The early inspirations of the group were the Wilsons’ musician father, Murry, and the close vocal harmonies of groups such as The Four Freshmen

Snarky Puppy

The last four years have brought dramatic changes for Snarky Puppy. After a decade of relentless touring and recording in all but complete obscurity, the Texas-bred/New York-based quasi-collective suddenly found itself held up by the press and public as one of the major figures in the jazz world. But as the category names for all three of the band’s Grammy® awards would indicate (Best R&B Performance in 2014, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2016 and 2017), Snarky Puppy isn’t exactly a jazz band. It’s not a fusion band, and it’s definitely not a jam band. It’s probably best to take Nate Chinen of the New York Times’ advice, as stated in an online discussion about the group, to “take them for what they are, rather than judge them for what they’re not.” Snarky Puppy is a collective of sorts with as many as 25 members in regular rotation

Howard University Jazz Ensemble

Howard University Jazz Ensemble (HUJE) was founded in 1975 by its director, Fred Irby, III. Outstanding performances in the United States, Europe, South America, Asia, and the Caribbean have caused it to be recognized as one of the foremost college jazz ensembles. HUJE has been heard on radio and television as well as in concert, often appearing with celebrated performers. Members of the HUJE have won awards as performers and composers/arrangers, and the ensemble includes among its alumni several practicing jazz artists. Additionally, the HUJE was featured during the 1992, 1996 and 2005 Kennedy Center Honors Gala (CBS-TV)

ASA Trio

In 2005 on the Reykjavik Jazz Festival there was a last minute cancellation. Andres Thor was asked to put together a group to fill the slot. That was the first performance by ASA Trio, although the name would come later. During that concert one of the tunes Andres called was Thelonious Monk's Bemsha Swing and it turned out to be the highlight of the show. Afterward it seemed obvious to all three that they should play again, and the first thing on their minds was playing more music by Monk. And so they set about learning more compositions by the pianist, realizing as they went that the traditional instrumentation of guitar, Hammond organ and drums sounded quite unusual playing Monk's music. After several performances exclusively of his music, curiousity lead them to try music by other unlikely composers like Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams, Fiona Apple, Jimi Hendrix, Bud Powell, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Ray Charles
