Enrique Thompson & Revirado Project: Song for Someone - Canción para Alguien
By"Mr. BB" opens with the warm textures of piano and Rhodes, softly anchored by Ancor Miranda's understated brushwork. Thompson's saxophone brings a medium-upbeat energy with a solo that swings effortlessly. Bryan Corbett follows with a confident melodic trumpet line before Daniel Schwarzwald takes a thoughtful piano solo that ties the piece together. "Tschuka" highlights the group's conversational fluency. Trumpet and saxophone engage in a playful dynamic exchange, trading phrases and harmonizing in bursts of vibrant color, while the Rhodes electric piano underpins the piece with a quiet, continuous serenade. With "Song For Natalie," the mood shifts into ballad territory. Thompson's tender saxophone sets a reflective tone, soon joined by Yonatan Levi's lyrical double bass solo, which is subtle, expressive and emotionally resonant. The interplay between trumpet and Rhodes further deepens the narrative quality of the piece.
"Cyberadict" stands out for its innovative, forward-thinking approach. The track opens with the unexpecteda ringing telephonebefore launching into an atmospheric blend of Rhodes textures and bold trumpet improvisation. Corbett's phrasing here is particularly adventurous, navigating through the shifting soundscape with modernist flair. "Follow The Feeling (Of The Ancient Heart)" lives up to its name, delivering a gentle, romantic ballad driven by the sensitive blending of the trumpet and saxophone. Their unison lines and close harmonies create a lush, intimate atmosphere. Beautiful vocals by Anselma Schneider. "Luxemburg" open in a more contemplative groove, grounded by Levi's bass and Corbett's restrained trumpet. Schwarzwald offers a Rhodes solo that feels both grounded and exploratory, balancing the tune's quiet confidence.
The title track, "Song For Someone," ventures into moodier, more sensual territory. The trio of bass, organ, and trumpet crafts a simmering improvisation, highlighted by a sultry bass solo that lingers just the right amount. "Litchfield" brings an uptick in energy with tight, sophisticated horn work and a swinging momentum. Corbett's trumpet solo is a particular highlightcrisp, articulate and full of character. The album closes with "Mr BB (Friday Night at The Cabaret)," a Latin jazz-infused version of the opener. This version leans into rhythmic vibrancy, with the double bass leading confidently before horns and Rhodes bring a lively, celebratory close.
