Phishing Scam Alert
Someone continues to sign up at All About Jazz to send out phishing messages to musicians about a phony gig opportunity. We deactivate his account(s) when we spot them, but he sometimes sends out messages before the deactivation occurs. We're now taking measures to prevent him from messaging altogether (though the process will take time). In the meantime, be on the lookout for the message below and delete it immediately. You can use the comments section to post his emails especially if he changes his name.
The scam involves "his friend" who is paying for the event and accidentally sends you a check (see example below) for music and the photographer and wants you to deposit the check and then send the remainder to the photographer.

Hello,
Thanks for your response. I want you to kindly let me know if you are available to do a Live Performance. As for the fee, I hope It will be within our budget and you can send me the cost, Also a very close friend to the family who volunteered to pay for your service fee, as his own financial contribution towards our wedding. He said he will be making payment through a check. He will want to do that asap. If you are okay with the payment, kindly forward the name that will be on the check, Phone number and the address it will be sent to. We will continue to communicate further regarding the ceremony. We are planning a very small wedding with an average budget. Also we do not have any musical preferences, anything Romantic is fine with us.
Thanks.
Mark Glenn
