Fans of Man Men have been emailing to ask me about the closing song on Sunday night's episode. As viewers of the series know, Matthew Weiner, the show's creator, writer and producer, is crazy about music and loves springing off-beat songs as a closing theme. This past Sunday, Weiner went with a cool, suave C'est Si Bon by French singer-actor Yves Montand.
Montand had two sizable recordings of the song, a music hall version in 1948 and a cool, updated rendition, circa 1964, arranged by Hubert Rostaing. What you heard on Sunday was the latter, which was released in France on the French CBS label. Unfortunately, I don't know much more about the band or the female vocal(s) in the background. Hopefully one of our French readers will weigh in with more details.
JazzWax tracks: You'll find the 1964 version that appeared on Mad Men here.
JazzWax clips: Here's Montand in 1948...
And here's his updated version in 1964 that closed Man Men on Sunday...
