Dear Friends:

Recently, I taped my next one-hour show for the “Jazz From the Archives" series. Presented by the Institute of Jazz Studies, the series runs every Sunday on WBGO-FM (88.3).

Albert Dailey (1938-1984) is often overlooked nowadays when great jazz pianists are discussed, but during his lifetime he was hugely respected by his peers. A partial list of his employers bears this out: Art Blakey, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, Woody Herman, Freddie Hubbard, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, and Sonny Rollins.

We'll hear rare recordings of Dailey as a leader, plus his duo and quartet collaborations with Stan Getz.

The show will air this Sunday, September 11, from 11 p.m. to midnight, Eastern Daylight Time.

NOTE: If you live outside the New York City metropolitan area, WBGO also broadcasts on the Internet at www.wbgo.org.

Best,
Bill Kirchner
