Two months after appearing on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz radio show in November 1978, Bill Evans hit the road. Right after the new year, the pianist was in Iowa with his trio—bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Joe La Barbera—at the Maintenance Shop in Ames.
