Urban Funk is pleased to announce the dynamic release of their second single “Mercy Mercy Me" from their debut CD, Heroes and Legends. The classic Rhythm And Blues vocal originally performed and written by Marvin Gaye is re-cut with Tommy Lepson on lead vocals. Produced by local, legendary woodwind artist Wayne Sulc and percussionist Tim Cutrona, the CD contains a smooth and upbeat mix of funk and jazz music.

Marvin Gaye's timeless piece “Mercy Mercy Me" was first released on the LP titled What's Going On in 1971. Current in its focus on the Ecology, Tommy Lepson brings a passionate and soulful style to this grove that is complemented by the saxophone sounds of Wayne Sulc. The grove of Urban Funk re energizes The Funk Brothers original treatment.

As an accomplished performer, Tommy has appeared with many other famous musicians including Chuck Berry, The Righteous Brothers, James Brown, Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Kinks, Captain Beafheart, Little Feat, NRBQ, and invited to perform at the White House three times. He has recorded and or performed with Danny Gatton, Nils Lofgren (E Street Band), Jeff Skunk Baxter (Doobie Bros., Steely Dan) Duke Robillard, Kim Wilson, Tom Principato, The Nighthawks , Root Boy Slim and The Assassins (Jimmy Thackery). Tommy has received numerous Washington Area Music Awards (Wama), and in 2006 was inducted into the Wama Hall of Fame.

The Heroes and Legends CD is now available from Saxmanpro.com and CDBaby.com. Additionally, Urban Funk is currently scheduling live performances for their 2010 season. Tune into more details and developments of Urban Funk on Saxmanpro.com.
