Due to ill health, Lol Coxhill could not fly here this week for his sets at The Stone. Lol had a hip operation earlier this year, has been having hearing problems as of late and fears not being able to play well or at all when he was to arrive in New York earlier today. We all wish him well and a speedy recovery.

The new schedule for The Stone this week is as follows:

* Tuesday, December 5th at 8 & 10pm:
STEVE BERESFORD & THE SIGNALS FOR TEA QUARTET featuring
Steve Beresford - piano, vocals & songs
Ned Rothenberg - alto sax
Steve Bernstein - trumpet
Shanir Blumenkranz - contrabass
Harris Eisenstadt - drums

Mr. Beresford & his downtown all-star quartet will perform songs from his wonderful Avant CD, Signals for Tea, which has never been performed here is the US, as well as some spirited improvisations from this special one-time quartet.

* Wednesday, December 6th:
8pm: BORAH BERGMAN - solo piano from one of the most extraordinary of all local piano legends, who rarely gets a chance to play here is his own backyard.

10pm: BORAH BERGMAN / SABIR MATEEN / DEE POP!
First time trio offering from downtown greats - Borah Bergman on piano, Sabir Mateen on various reeds and Dee Pop on drums. Certain to generate some fireworks, so you best bring your goggles and fire extinguishers.

The rest of this week's schedule continues as follows:

* Thursday, December 7th at The Stone
8 & 10pm - TWO LUCIAN BAN/BARRY ALTSCHUL GROUPS!

8pm - LUCIAN BAN TRIO with special guest BARRY ALTSCHUL
Barry Altschul drums, Hilliard Hill Greene bass & Lucian Ban piano

Lucian Ban is one of the most gifted pianists & composers to come to New York in the past decade. Check any of his discs on CIMP or Jazzaway and you will be knocked out. On this night Lucian plays with the legendary New York jazz drummer, Barry Altschul whose career stretches back to the mid-sixties when he recorded with Paul Bley and later with Anthony Braxton, Sam Rivers & Dave Holland!

10pm - HIEROGLYPHICS ENSEMBLE featuring MARK FELDMAN
Mark Feldman - violin, Lucian Ban piano, Hill Greene bass and special guest - Barry Altschul drums

For this set, Lucian has added the consistently outstanding violinist, Mark Feldman. Mark's recent CD on ECM is one the year's best and his playing with the Masada String Trio and Masada Recital (w/ Sylvie Courvoisier) is always inspired.

* Friday, December 8th at The Stone - 8 & 10pm - $10 per set
DENNIS GONZALEZ & YELLS AT EELS with special guests KEN FILIANO on bass & PATRICK HOLMES on clarinet; YELLS AT EELS features DENNIS GONZALEZ on trumpets, AARON GONZALEZ on bass and STEFAN GONZALEZ on drums
