Tzigane Music Presents The Skip Heller Trio at the Jack-O-Lantern Ballroom, Kansas City, Friday June 10

Guitarist Skip Heller, whose cult keeps growing via brilliant, inventive organ combo discs that at one embrace tradition and defy convention, is coming to Kansas City in support of his TWO (!) new Dreambox releases, OUT OF TIME: THE SKIP HELLER TRIO LIVE IN PHILLY (a standards date), and BEAR FLAG, a typically audacious studio date of new originals.

AAJ has described listening to Heller as “like witnessing genius by lightning strike". Little wonder -- his stock in trade is jazz that draws on a variety of influences, including klezmer, Mexican music, classical, film noir scores, cartoon music, and rhythm'n'blues around a hard-swinging Philly organ jazz core. His live shows are blistering, sweaty affairs that routinely turn audience members into converts.

Tzigane Music, who normally present South American music (especially flemenco) don't usually promote jazz shows. But Heller's Pan-American approach at once fit in with and expanded Tzigane's palette.
