A New Generation of Jazz Backing Tracks

Backing tracks are a valuable practice tool for musicians of all levels. Let’s face it, we don’t all live in a major city where we can play with top players every night and sometimes we need some inspiration to keep us motivated during those long hours in the shed. Backing tracks have a bit of a reputation of being a little lifeless, often with midi instruments and no sense of interaction with real players, until now. Our backing tracks are recorded live with professional Jazz musicians with years of experience so you get the feeling you are literally playing with them. With a huge growing library of jazz standards to choose from you won’t need to spend hours searching the internet for quality tracks to play along to.

How it started

UK-born organist, Phil Wilkinson has been on the international Jazz scene for over two decades and has worked with big stars such as Larry Coryell, Mark Whitfield, Peter Bernstein and Houston Person. The initial idea was to make backing tracks for himself, he is also an accomplished guitarist. After sharing a few on his Youtube channel the response was immense. He started to receive messages and musicians all around the world were sending him videos of themselves playing along with the tracks including top players such as Bobby Broom and Cecil Alexander. Phil decided to pursue the idea further and started recording sessions with pro Jazz drummers, and has built the website, playjazztracks.com from the ground up.

Praise for Phil Wilkinson's Jazz Backing Tracks

“Phil provides super-inspiring and useful tracks. I use them both with my students and personally.” —Bobby Broom

“These are the only tracks I use for my practice sessions because they keep me inspired and reaching for new ideas.” —Cecil Alexander
