Ten new titles have just been released in the ORIGINAL JAZZ CLASSICS series
Three from Milestone: Inner Voices," McCOY TYNER's 1977 album featuring Earl Klugh, Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette, and Tyner's arrangements for horns and voices; Open Your Eyes You Can Fly," the breakthrough 1976 disc by Brazilian vocalist FLORA PURIM in the company of Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, and others; and JOE HENDERSON in Japan," an August 1971 Tokyo club date that Bill Kirchner calls one of the handful of records from the late Sixties and early Seventies to be studied like a textbook by the most advanced young jazz musicians". . .
Two from Prestige: tenor saxophonist HOUSTON PERSON's Blue Odyssey" (1968), with Curtis Fuller, Pepper Adams, Cedar Walton, Bob Cranshaw, and Frankie Jones; and DEXTER GORDON's Tangerine," comprised of two stellar 1972 sessions (Freddie Hubbard is heard on a bonus track). . .
One each from Fantasy and Contemporary, respectively: Brand New," the 1971 date by WOODY HERMAN and his Orchestra, with arrangements by Alan Broadbent and featuring guitarist Mike Bloomfield; and Feeling Free" by guitarist BARNEY KESSEL (1969), with Bobby Hutcherson, Chuck Domanico, Elvin Jones.
