With the end of August and the upcoming Labor Day holiday, a week of relative repose makes for a natural demarcation point between the musically hyperactive summer festival season and several imminent regional fall chamber and college series, which start up after Labor Day. I'll focus on several of those next week.
Though Tanglewood, that colossus among presenters, concludes its classical programming, there's still more to come: This year's Tanglewood Jazz Festival, which runs from Aug. 29-31, will present five concerts in three days and will feature great artists and innovative programming.
And, not to be so quickly forgotten, for devoted classical buffs in need of their chamber music, there's a superb piano solo/four-hand recital offered at two venues this week in Bennington, Vt., and Hillsdale, N.Y.
