    Before successfully striking out on his own as an internationally acclaimed New York City based bandleader, and releasing five albums as a leader/co-leader, Jazz Guitarist and Award-Winning Composer Sten Hostfalt studied with legendary icons of American Music and Jazz Jimmy Giuffre, Paul Bley and Joe Maneri. Participated in Composition Masterclasses with Toru Takemitsu and Gyorgi Ligeti. Appeared in concerts with Gary Burton, Peter Erskine and Clare Fischer. And apprenticed for a decade in Jazz Orchestras led by Jazz Masters Phil Wilson, Herb Pomeroy George Russell. And notably as an original member of and featured soloist with Guillermo Klein's pioneering large New York ensemble, weekly at an always sold out Smalls Jazz Club NYC in 1994-95. Alongside leading names of the new Jazz generation Mark Turner, Aaron Goldberg, Chris Cheek, Ingrid Jensen and Jeff Ballard. As well as in European tours and recordings with mainstream Jazz artists Rob McConnell, Bobby Shew and Bobby Shew. Gaining recognition as a sideman in leading press and media worldwide including JAZZ TIMES MAGAZINE , THE NEW YORK TIMES and ALL MUSIC GUIDE.

    Just documented with the album 'QUARTET' on the Sonus Rex label. And building on two decades of musical comraderie, the (recent) history of the STEN HOSTFALT TRIO and QUARTET ( and various related incarnations like K-MOD, Ghost Factor/G-Factor and Soft Value) dates back to 1990 with members and/or guests including bassists Matthew Garrison, Matt Pavolka Masa Kamaguchi and Richard Hammond, drummers Jimmy Weinstein, Cyril Atef and Owen Howard, vibraphonist Tom Beckham, trumpet players Takuya Nakamura and Lars Lindvall, reed players Seamus Blake, Don Houge, ( and recently / currently ) Matt Renzi and Ole Mathisen.
