James Moody to perform Sept. 26
With a world-class lineup of international jazz legends and bright new stars, the 2008 Solvang Jazz Festival is set to bring the excitement of jazz and other forms of music to the Central Coast, Sept. 25 to 28.
The Universal Guild for Jazz and Progressive Music has announced that Grammy-nominated saxophonist James Moody has been added to this year's lineup.
Moody will perform with Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band and Barbara Morrison from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, at the Festival's Swingin' the Groove" Big Band Bash and Dinner event at Solvang Veteran's Memorial Hall.
For more than six decades, whether playing the soprano, alto or tenor sax, flute or singing, James Moody is a living, breathing icon of what the Jazz movement is all about," said Stix Hooper, founder of the Crusaders and president of the Universal Guild of Jazz and Progressive Music, the nonprofit presenting the Solvang Jazz Festival, in a recent press release. Moody is truly a force that has shaped the jazz culture and is instrumental in creating understanding and appreciation worldwide."
Moody is world-renowned for his improvisational masterpiece, Moody's Mood for Love," based on his saxophone solo on a 1952 recording of one of the most popular jazz standards of all time, I'm in the Mood for Love." He is the recipient of numerous honors from music, education and cultural organizations.
Along with Moody, the Solvang Jazz Festival is bringing artists from the world over, in a variety of jazz genres, to the Central Coast.
