"Alex Lopez is a fine saxophonist and composer. He has recorded a beautiful and heart-felt cd that combines lyricism and modern jazz in a very natural way. I hear a distinctive sound in this music, and look forward to seeing where Alex goes from here." —Bob Mintzer, Grammy award winning saxophonist and composer

“Great... a style and sound that is very inspiring." —Jerry Bergonzi, Internationally recognized jazz performer, composer, author, and educator

The debut album “We Can Take This Boat" from New York based saxophonist and composer Alex Lopez has been receiving heavy praise from numerous top saxophonists in the world. In this album Lopez draws inspiration from influences as diverse as Bruce Lee, John Coltrane, Maurice Ravel, and Ben Folds. Also a film aficionado, his original music draws from the programmatic styles of the great film composers and features some of the top young jazz musicians today: pianist Sam Harris, guitarist Greg Duncan, bassist Linda Oh, and drummer Norman Edwards.

In addition to his new album of all original music, Lopez has composed music for independent films in New York City, and works for orchestra, big band, string quartet. As a soloist, Alex Lopez has received awards from Downbeat Magazine, the International Association of Jazz Educators, and the Wisconsin Student Music Association.

Lopez studied at New England Conservatory, completed his Bachelor of Music at University of Miami, and holds a Masters Degree from Manhattan School of Music. His past teachers include saxophone icons Bob Mintzer, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone, and Steve Wilson. An educator himself, he taught saxophone at the University of Las Vegas Nevada, and has given master classes at McGill University in Montreal, Canada and the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. He now maintains a private studio of woodwind students in New York City.

Alex Lopez currently performs with his jazz quintet, co-leads the exciting video game cover band, “Fighting in the Streets," with drummer Norman Edwards, and freelancers with numerous other bands around the New York area.
