Renowned Grammy Award-Winning Artists to Headline 2007 Rhythm & Ribs Jazz Festival

Kansas City's Historic 18th and Vine Jazz District will heat up this summer as host to three of the world's most renowned jazz giants. With 31 Grammy awards among them, George Benson, Al Jarreau and the Pat Metheny Trio promise to deliver the musical experience of a lifetime at the third annual Rhythm & Ribs Jazz Festival on June 15-16.

Since its inception in 2005, the Rhythm & Ribs Jazz Festival has grown into a truly world-class event, attracting more than 30,000 people last year. In addition to legendary headliners, the Rhythm & Ribs festival will feature 40 other national and local musical acts.

The festival also features the “Smoke it, Baby!" amateur BBQ competition, the Target Children's Pavilion, and a host of local food and craft vendors.

On Thursday, June 14th and Friday, June 15th, UMKC Jazz Studies Director and former Jazz Messengers musical director Dr. Bobby Watson will lead local students in a two-day workshop that will conclude with a student performance at the American Jazz Museum's jazz club, the Blue Room.

Renowned jazz historian and film collector Hal Miller will also present at the Students' Workshop and will have film presentations available inside the American Jazz Museum during the festival.

The Rhythm & Ribs Jazz Festival is a collaborative effort by the American Jazz Museum, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, the Jazz District Redevelopment Corporation, the Black Economic Union, the Downtown Council of Kansas City, Mo., and the City of Kansas City, Mo.
