Flemings, a Eugene O'Neill Playwright's Conference finalist (2004), calls the work a spirited celebration of rhythm, blues and life" inspired by her childhood experiences in Alabama and summers spent in several small Southern towns in the mid-1960s and early 1970s. Directed by Liesl Tommy, Renee will be backed by a five-piece band including Tony Bellantoni (guitar) Darrell Briscoe (bass) Salvatore Carolei (harmonica), Danny Sanchez (drums) and Mario Sprouse (pianist).
