This album is a culmination of everything I love about New Orleans music.
Mia Borders
Borders brings the heat on Firewalker, a collection of soul-stirring originals showcasing her powerhouse vocals and a deep connection to the rich musical heritage of her hometown. The album's lead single “Firewalker” dropped on July 19 and boasts an all-star lineup, featuring the iconic George Porter Jr., bassist of the legendary The Meters, laying down his unmistakable groove and gritty vocals.
The full album features a stellar band of New Orleans heavyweights, including Wayne Maureau on drums, Jesse Morrow on bass, Michael Lemmler on keys, Takeshi Shimmura on guitar, Ashley Shabankareh on trombone, Emily Mikesell on trumpet, and Brad Walker on saxophone.
Recorded at the hallowed Marigny Studios in the heart of New Orleans, Firewalker pulsates with the city's vibrant energy. The album's creation was made possible in part by a grant from the Threadhead Cultural Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to supporting the artistic legacy of New Orleans. A portion of the proceeds from the album go to the Borders Foundation, a 501c3 whose mission is to uplift the voices of BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and women-identifying musicians.
This album is a culmination of everything I love about New Orleans music," says Borders. It's got fire, it's got soul, and it's got the undeniable spirit of this city in every note. I'm incredibly honored to have George Porter Jr. on the lead single, and the entire band brought so much magic to the studio."
