New fans sustain Bix legacy: Musician’s global reputation puts Davenport on jazz music map

Places exist on this planet where the term “Quad-Cities" means nothing, but the name “Bix" brings instant recognition. The name connotes jazz innovation, made even more memorable by what it did to an entire music genre.

In his time, jazz musicians changed after hearing Bix Beiderbecke's melodic twists.

“The best British, French and Danish jazz musicians went out of their way to study and cherish Beiderbecke's records. British dance orchestras, especially, took to Beiderbecke," writes Michael Steinman in his review of the 2008 CD set, The Influence of Bix Beiderbecke--Vol. One (USA)/ Vol. Two (Europe).

The world knows Bix. Steinman concludes that influence extended far beyond brass players, with Bix compositions that influenced musicians and composers.
