The Music & Health Clinic at The Louis Armstrong Center for Music & Medicine Beth Israel Medical Center, New York NY
Our mission at The Music & Health Clinic of The Louis Armstrong Center for Music & Medicine is to provide high service, low cost health care tailored to meet the unique physical, mental and emotional needs of musicians and performing artists. Performance can be stifled by chronic fatigue, overuse injuries, scar tissue from surgical procedures, anxiety, depression, chemical dependency, focusing difficulties or various side effects of medication.
Our interdisciplinary team of medical professionals and music therapists provide standard medical care combined with complementary mind-body approaches. Services include medical consultation, referrals to an on-site team of consulting physicians with a wide range of specialties including neurology, acupuncture, pulmonology, internal medicine and otolaryngology as well as music therapy assessment and treatment options. Clinical music therapy interventions include music-assisted relaxation, guided visualization and stress management to address the physical symptoms of overuse injuries and alleviate pain, as well as tonal intervallic synthesis, vibration and clinical music improvisation to address specific cognitive psychomotivational aspects of depression, chemical dependency, chronic fatigue and anxiety.
It is our goal to use the familiar and creative medium of music in a therapeutic context to provide musicians and performing artists with an empowering, dynamic healing environment that is easily accessible. Center is on Union Square-accessible to the N, R, 4, 5, 6, Q, L. Holiday Gift certificates available.
