AccuJazz Internet Radio continues its weekly roll-out of new creatively programmed streaming jazz channels with the launch of its newest customizable radio stream, “Decade: '40s." Like all of AccuJazz's channels, it is free to use and available 24 hours a day.
The 1940s was a pivotal decade in the history of jazz. Swing was still king at the beginning of the decade, but its popularity began to wane towards the end of World War II as it became less practical to keep big bands together and pop crooners took over the airwaves. The art of Jazz wouldn't die, however. Rather, it took on a new life with the rise of Bebop, the revolutionary new style developed by Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie that turned jazz convention on its side.
“Decade: '40s" plays a wide array of music from the decade, from the sentimental swing of Tommy Dorsey to the fiery Bebop of Bud Powell, as well as Django Reinhardt's gypsy jazz and Woody Herman's raucous big band music.
“Decade: '40s" is the fourth decade-based channel offered by AccuJazz, joining a Pre-1940 channel and a channel apiece for the '50s and '60s. It brings the total AccuJazz channel tally to 35, joining channels in the other categories of Jazz by Style, Jazz by Instrument, Jazz by Region, and Jazz by Composer. As with all AccuJazz channels, listeners can customize their experience by pausing, skipping songs, and “deselecting" artists they would rather not hear.
