Out of the primordial stew that is Burnt Sugar comes the inevitable string & noise duo: violinist/vocalist Mazz Swift and guitarist Ben Tyree plan to pull out all the stops with their fiery brand of virtuosic and heavily improvised avant-chamber jazz. On Thursday, April 22nd at 9pm, Swift and Tyree will present MazzMuse (feat. Ben Tyree) at Rose Live Music (345 Grand St - btwn Havemeyer & Marcy - Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY).

At the age of 12, violinist and singer Mazz Swift made her solo performance debut at Alice Tully Hall in New York City, performing alongside members of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. She later attended the Juilliard School of Music and studied with Stephen Clapp. Since leaving in her third year to pursue a more organic approach to music making, she has performed and recorded with artists of all kinds including Whitney Houston, Kanye West, Vernon Reid and DJ Logic (The Yohimbe Bros.), Burnt Sugar (the eclectic improvised 5 to 24 piece Arkestra conducted by Greg Tate) and Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. Ms. Swift is NYC-based, where she splits her time between a solo project (MazzMuse), a career as a freelance performing and recording artist and the demanding touring schedule of her folk based band Brazz Tree. She aims to make conscious, honest music composing in the moment and hopes to inspire all who listen and hear.

Ben Tyree has crafted an original, yet easily recognizable style of improvisational guitar playing and composing. Incorporating Coltrane-esque melodic sheets of sound, funk-derived and classical finger-style rhythm playing as well as chord voicings not typical to guitar arrangements, Tyree has established himself as one of the most versatile and creative musicians of his generation. His vision stems from studies of classical guitar, composition and jazz performance at Washington, D.C.'s Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Howard University as well as experiences with his award-winning hip-hop/fusion group, Miscellaneous Flux. Having collaborated with the likes of Vernon Reid, Burnt Sugar: The Arkestra Chamber and DJ Logic, his musical vision has expanded broadly, as has the demand for his talent. Tyree is currently involved in numerous projects including his own adventurous, alternate-tuning solo acoustic guitar explorations and his electric sci-fi jazz/funk trio, BT3.
