The Brooklyn Next events will also feature an all-ages BAMfamily concert, Brooklyn Kids Rock!, on Feb 24 at 12pm in the BAM Harvey Theater. The performance includes the high-energy rock band AudraRox, led by singer/songwriter/music educator Audra Tsanos; the quirky bluegrass/folk ensemble Astrograss, led by Jordan Shapiro; and Toxic Muffin, a band of eight- to ten-year-olds that gives a preview of the next generation of Brooklyn musicians. The concert is recommended for kids ages two and up.
Complementing the Brooklyn Next programs is a BAMart exhibition showcasing the work of a dynamic Brooklyn gallery. Curated by artist/ BAM Trustee Danny Simmons and artist Meridith McNeal, the Feb 12-Mar 2 exhibition presents the work of Red Hook's Kentler International Drawing Space, and is entitled Selections from the Kentler Flatfiles: Variations in Black and White. The artwork will be displayed in the BAM Natman Room (30 Lafayette Ave) and admission will be free of charge. A reception celebrating the exhibition, also free of charge and open to the public, will be held on Feb 23 from 6-8pm in the BAM Natman Room.
BAM Howard Gilman Opera House, BAM Rose Cinemas, BAMcafe, and Shakespeare & Co. BAMshop are located in the Peter Jay Sharp building at 30 Lafayette Avenue (between St Felix Street and Ashland Place) in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn. BAM Harvey Theater is located two blocks from the main building at 651 Fulton Street (between Ashland and Rockwell Places). BAM Rose Cinemas is Brooklyn's only movie house dedicated to first-run independent and foreign film and repertory programming. BAMcaf, operated by Great Performances, is open for dining prior to Howard Gilman Opera House performances. BAMcafe also features an eclectic mix of spoken word and live music for BAMcafe Live nights on Friday and Saturday with a special BAMcaf Live menu available starting at 8pm.
