The Jorge Gavidia and Sarah Begin Quintet are thrilled to announce the release of their debut jazz album, “You Never Know." The album represents a big step forward for Toronto based musicians, Jorge Gavidia and Sarah Begin, the masterminds behind the project.

Consisting of 9 original songs, the album showcases the songwriting talents of Jorge Gavidia, with one song written by Sarah Begin. “You Never Know" is relaxing mix of jazz and blues, intermixed with odd-time compositions. A number of fantastic musicians are featured on the album, including saxophonist David Rubel, bassist Kevin Braun, and drummer Matt Wills.

Much of the inspiration for “You Never Know" came from a trip that Jorge and Sarah took to Montreal in 2009. Inspired by the recent travels of a fellow musician, the pair were eager to check out the Jazz scene in the iconic town.

“It was beautiful and encouraging," said Sarah. “There was a jazz jam almost every night of the week, and the players were extremely friendly and diverse. I fell in love immediately."

The trip to Montreal inspired the duo so much that when they arrived back in Toronto, they immediately prepared to go into the studio and record. Two of the songs, “L'amour a Montreal," and “Old Montreal," are direct reflections of the impact that the town had on them. As well, the album artwork consists of images that were taken on the streets of Old Montreal.

Hailing from vastly different backgrounds, Jorge and Sarah were brought together through their mutual love of music in 2008.

“I was looking for a vocalist for my band, and Sarah came highly recommended," Said Jorge. “Once she joined the band, it became clear we share many of the same goals and aspirations."

Since then, the pair have been working hard on various projects including a salsa band and another band that fuses jazz, funk and hip hop.

“You Never Know" can be purchased through CDbaby.com as well as digitally downloaded through itunes.com and amazon.ca. You can also purchase a copy at Toronto record stores, She Said Boom and Sonic Boom.
