Songwriter JC Hopkins and his Biggish Band brighten the Fez Under Time Cafe on Monday October 11th, playing heartfelt songs of romance in the keys of bop and swing. Vocalist Queen Esther (featured in George C. Wolfe's “Harlem Song" at the Apollo Theater) brings to mind the strength and style of singers past such as Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan.

The JC Hopkins Biggish Band includes New York's best working jazz musicians from both the uptown Harlem and downtown East Village jazz scenes. Guitarist Liberty Ellman, a composer in his own right, works regularly with musicians Steve Coleman, Steven Bernstein, and Greg Osby. Ellman shines as one of the most intriguing guitarists working in New York today. Ubiquitous to the Harlem scene, tenor saxophonist Patience Higgins presides over the Monday night jam sessions at Lenox Lounge, and performs regularly with legend Bobby Short and tap impresario Savion Glover. Vibraphonist Warren Smith has wielded his mallets with the best: Miles Davis, Max Roach, and Charles Mingus. The diversity of each player's influence will converge at the Fez on Monday night to create an exciting evening of original big-band jazz.
