When Matt Vaughan heard that a Saturday in April had been set aside two years ago to honor indie-music stores, the owner of Seattle's Easy Street Records thought it was a waving of the white flag." Still, he went along and opened his doors with modest expectations. To my surprise, it turned out to be the busiest day of the year," said Vaughan, who has a store in West Seattle and another on Queen Anne. I wasn't even staffed for ...

That was obscene, right? Plenty of jazz devotees thought so.
Pat Metheny reportedly said, in response, With this single move, Kenny G became one of the few people ...

Source:
HypeBot
Sure, digital music is convenient, portable and pretty much free for the pilfering, but where's the fun in scrolling through lines of song titles listed alphabetically in the same font on a LCD screen?...A backlash to the ber-utilitarian ways of digital music has been underway for years with the rise of vinyl fetishism, but no one saw cassette tapes making a comeback.
... Although cassettes have always been a staple in the trenches of noise and industrial music, the larger ...Continue Reading

China Blocks Bob Dylan Concerts
Source:
All About Jazz
The times they are not a-changin'. Bob Dylan has canceled the Chinese, Taiwanese and Korean legs of his Asian tour after Beijing's culture ministry refused him permission to play in China. Dylan's concerts in China were announced in January but then there was little follow-up on when and where they would take place. Many local fans were skeptical because controversial artists are generally not allowed to play in China, especially since Iceland's Bjork shouted Tibetan independence slogans at the end ...
