Sonny Rollins: In Holland, 1967
Source:
JazzWax by Marc Myers
In 1967, Sonny Rollins was restless. Everything in the U.S. was changing fast. As an artist, Sonny was changing, too. Just as he had was reaching the apex of his playing prowess, jazz seemed to be sliding as a valued art form at home. To find truth, Sonny toured extensively in Europe, particularly Scandinavia and the Netherlands. There, he found emotionally open fans who understood his history and fully accepted his art and heritage. Back in the U.S., what seemed ...

Composer / Drummer Filippo Bonaccorso Releases 'Enigmatica' on Got Groove Records
Source:
All About Jazz
“These compositions were born during a very long span of my life, long before I conceived of this project and this album,” says drummer, composer, and bandleader Filippo Bonaccorso of his recording debut. “Enigmatica is the characteristic of the human soul that is indefinite, often unsolved, not always clear.” However, Enigmatica makes this very clear: Its six original tunes, rendered through an eleven-piece ensemble which Bonaccorso anchors as drummer, and ranging from an unexpected rhumba to a Middle Eastern market ...

'Promenade' - New Album - Aleph Trio - Available On Every Digital Store
Source:
Antonio Cece
Promenade the first album of the Neapolitan trio Aleph Trio is out now. The video is entirely made by the visual artist Ludovica Bastianini, recognized in Italy and abroad for her photographic research. Photography is in fact the privileged means of narration of this animated short. Alternating hand-painted and digital photographs, photographs taken ad hoc and ready made photographs taken from the personal archives of the musicians, in an ironic and surrealist way, “Promenade" speaks to us of an experience ...

Magma 'Bourges 1979' (2CD) Remastered Edition Now Available
Source:
Glass Onyon PR - Keith James
This particular concert stands out as a moment of grace, partly due to its extreme tension and the risks taken collectively, which the audience still reminisces of to this day. While chosen for their rich and original musical content, rather than strictly technical qualities per se, these archives are a testament to the astounding talent of cult band Magma during its 50 year career. In addition to the remastering, the original tape, which had suffered before being found, has been ...
