Laura Anglade

Originally from Brousse-le-Château in the South of France, raised in Connecticut and now based in Montreal– 23-year-old Laura Anglade grew up in a musical household and found inspiration early on listening to her idols including Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan and Anita O’Day.  While Laura’s style is evocative of Julie London, Helen Merrill and Cyrille Aimée – her voice is uniquely her own.

Laura has made a strong impression on the local Montreal Jazz scene in a short period of time, having performed in multiple jazz festivals in the region and regularly at local jazz clubs around the city.  Laura draws in her audience not only with her sensitive interpretations and melodic approach to improvisation but with her demure and thoroughly engaging stage presence. Her manner on stage can at times be described as quiet and focused but when she digs emotionally and eloquently into a standard, her story-telling abilities portray a soul beyond her years.

The Laura Anglade Quintet’s debut recording (June 2019) is entitled ‘I’ve Got Just About Everything’. “This record is a collective effort,” explains Anglade, “We are always setting new goals as a band and challenging and learning from each other. I think the key is a shared level of humility and desire to do this music justice. With the exception of Easy Way Out, this record is our take on lesser-known standards outlining the tradition. Branching out from the quintet’s combined influences, on top of the carefully thought out melodies, I truly believe that these tunes offer themes and experiences that are indeed timeless. Music creates a safe space for self-digging by freeing the listener to approach it without constraints. I find truth in every lyric, and I think that every generation can too.”
