Fresh off her recent JUNO Award for Best Vocal Jazz Album of the Year and notable performances at the Montreal Jazz Fest, Blue Note NYC, and Birdland, Brooklyn-based vocal jazz sensation Laura Anglade is thrilled to announce her new full-length, Something’s Coming, due out November 13th via Nettwerk.
Following her beautifully sparse reinterpretation of the West Side Story classic "Something's Coming" and a wistful rendition of “The Music That Makes Me Dance” from Funny Girl, today, Anglade shares "Sunday in New York," continuing her homage to the theatrical energy of the city she now calls home. Originally written and released in 1963 for the motion picture by the same name, Laura effortlessly captures the magic of the city and its refusal to ever truly slow down through her one-of-a-kind scatting vocals.
“I first learned this song from Shirley Horn off her album Travelin’ Light. I love her version so much.” Anglade recalls. “We wanted to put our own spin on it. It is always a treat to get to arrange these songs with the band. This one, in particular, draws heavily on those classic Frank Sinatra big-band recordings. There’s a sense of constant motion in the arrangement, an underlying energy that never quite settles, even on what’s supposed to be the most relaxing day of the week. In a way, there’s nothing truly ‘relaxing’ about it, which is exactly why this interpretation works so well.”
After wowing audiences at the Blue Note NYC and Montreal Jazz Fest last month, Laura embarks on a tour through France with stops at the Jazz à Juan Festival on July 14th in Antibes, France, followed by a two-night residency at Le Duc des Lombards in Paris on July 22nd and 23rd, where she’ll perform two shows each night.
