Jade Collective Dreamily Combines Jazz With Brian Eno And Shoegaze Influences On 'Cycles'

Source: Christine King
April 20, 2021

Jade Collective is a group of talented musicians with the common goal of bringing freshness, personality and innovation to the world of modern jazz music. Their most recent EP features five songs that blur the lines between a wide range of musical influences. The first song, “Light” showcases beautiful ambient soundscapes and piano parts that make me think of artists like Brian Eno. Over the beautiful droning textures, a set of beautiful acoustic instruments and passionate vocals create an intimate ...

Paris Washboard: Superswing

Source: JazzWax by Marc Myers
April 19, 2021

Parisians are crazy about three things: Food, love and syncopation. I've always felt that the city's fascination with the latter has much to do with its romanticized impression of the years before World War II. But Paris's history with syncopation goes back even further. European classical modernists came under its influence at the start of the 20th century. Ragtime was likely at the Paris Exposition of 1900, where march king John Philip Sousa made a tour stop. Antonín Dvořák was ...

Sandhya 'Innocent Monster' Set For May 14th Release. Fiery Indie Rock/Jazz/Spirit!

Source: Scott Thompson Public Relations
April 15, 2021

Sandhya (SAHN-dia), is poised to break nationally with her newest project, Innocent Monster (Asirvatham / JazzGrrl Music) on May 14th! This art rock album contains ten original songs featuring vivid lyrics over deep-pocket grooves, all tied together by Sandhya’s charismatic voice and bold choices at the piano. It embodies a throwback, '70s-'80s-'90s FM radio sensibility that perfectly suits what Rolling Stone calls our new “post-genre” era. Fierce but philosophical, cynical but playful, these songs mirror the original Sanskrit meaning of ...

A World Of Talent: Rale Micic’s Heartwarming Fusion Of Heritage, Taste, And Jazz Guitar Sophistication Shines On 'Only Love Will Stay'

Source: Mixed Media Promotion
April 14, 2021

It goes without saying, though we’ll say it once, right from the top here, that Rale Micic is a unique voice in jazz guitar. He combines an absurdly melodic approach and an intricate insight into harmonies, with a sort of deep personal story from his native Serbia. His life experience and heritage exert a soft and loving influence on his artistic approach: the rhythm, tone, and feel of the music of his life. This approach, in the works for a ...

Dance Along With Basie, 1959

Source: JazzWax by Marc Myers
April 14, 2021

You won't find one of my favorite Thad Jones albums listed under his name. It's Dance Along With Basie, recorded for Roulette at the tail end of the 1950s. Cut over four sessions during the December holiday season in 1959, the album features mostly mid-tempo, swinging arrangements of standards. They're all strikes and perfect for a twirl around the dance floor. Despite the updated swing of Basie's New Testament band of the 1950s, the band was always first and foremost ...

Source: Simon Deeley
April 11, 2021

Indigo Horizon is a new release, from the UK band, showcases two new songs written (music & lyrics) by pianist and composer Simon Deeley: “Free Spirit" & “Blue Blues Horizon." Up until recently Simon Deeley's output has been created for instrumental combinations (primarily his trios and quartets), however, this changed in 2019, when the initial idea for a first song first saw the light of day. Simon had thought, for sometime that, several of his compositions would very likely work ...
