When he wasn't in the studio or on tour with Incubus, bassist Ben Kenney recently found time to record a downloadable voice-mail message for peta2--PETA's youth division--which is accessible at www.peta2.com.

“Yo, this is Ben Kenney with Incubus and The Division Group," says Ben in the phone recording. “The person you're trying to reach wanted me to tell you that you should go vegetarian and check out peta2.com for help on making it happen."

Ben appreciates the great health benefits of going vegetarian but tells peta2 in an exclusive interview that he did it for animals: “Probably around 16 or 17 years old, I started finding out about some of the animal cruelty things, and ethically it just didn't make sense to me to keep eating meat, so eventually I stopped." He adds, “I was watching [an HBO special] about the eating habits of different cultures, and they actually showed in China how people eat cats. ... I just happened to be sitting on the couch with my cat, and once I saw that, it just put everything in perspective. ... What's the difference between actually eating a cat and a cow?"

Incubus recently recorded three new songs for the Stealth soundtrack, including “Neither of Us Can See," a duet with fellow PETA supporter Chrissie Hynde. Incubus has also recorded songs for Flow, a new surfing documentary that frontman Brandon Boyd narrates.

Ben joins an ever-growing list of musicians and athletes--including Deftones, The Used, Hawthorne Heights, and Rise Against--who have teamed up with peta2 to inspire kids to challenge outdated, cruel attitudes about animals. Also featured on peta2.com are celebrity interviews, message boards, merchandise, downloadable voice-mail recordings, and chances to win great prizes like free concert tickets, iPods, and more.
