(NEW YORK, NEW YORK). Almost four years ago, in the aftermath of the worst terror disaster in this country's history, New Yorkers experienced an overwhelming outpour of support from people across the nation, who, among other things, gave generously to relief efforts and lined up to donate blood, clothing, food, as well as their time.
Less than two weeks ago, the Gulf Coast region experienced what will long be remembered as one of the worse natural disasters in this country's history. Remembering that in unity, there is strength," New York City residents Karen Alinauskas and Kristina Weise have teamed up with Rare-NYC owner Gloria Sardinas to host the Come Together Concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina.
On Saturday, September 10, 2005 commencing at 8 p.m., local musicians The Switch, Will Sellenraad, Darren Beckett, Abraham Burton, Rene Hart, Mark Stratil, Jonathan J. Johnson, Marya Lawrence, DJ Mike Dextro, Adrian Hibbs and Riot and other special guests will gather at Rare-NYC (416 West 14th Street, New York, NY 10014, tel. 212-675-2220) to perform in an eclectic concert featuring jazz, pop, blues, rock, house and folk music. Not only will this musical collaboration raise awareness and support for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, but it will show how local musicians can, in their own way, make a direct impact to those needing assistance.
The minimum entrance fee/ donation for the event is $10. All proceeds from this special charity event will go to the Hurricane Katrina Displaced Residents Fund, which was established by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation to benefit those individuals evacuated to Baton Rouge from the hurricane impacted areas in Greater New Orleans.
