Groupmuse is proud to announce that we are partnering with All About Jazz to share our jazz concerts with a wider audience.

For much of Groupmuse’s existence, its focus was exclusively on Western classical music. After George Floyd’s murder in 2020, the team reflected on classical music’s historical Eurocentrism, and decided to broaden Groupmuse’s musical focus. To center and support musics of the African diaspora and artists of African descent, Groupmuse launched Planetary Music Movement in 2020. As one prominent form of black artistry, jazz is now a mainstay of Groupmuse’s offerings.

We’ve been proud to feature groundbreaking artists such as Jazzmeia Horn, Tivon Pennicott, Alfredo Colón (also a worker-owner at Groupmuse), Mark Shim, E.J. Strickland, Dayna Stephens, and more. And we’re just getting started! Since we have so many exciting jazz events coming up, we want to share them with the jazz world as much as possible.

If you’re a jazz listener, you may have already heard of All About Jazz. All About Jazz, combined with Jazz Near You, is one of the most popular jazz music websites in the world. All About Jazz is “committed to raising the awareness of jazz’s cultural significance and historical legacy while actively celebrating the creative leaders of today.”

As part of our new ongoing partnership, Groupmuse’s jazz events will now be listed in the Jazz Near You calendar. We’re thrilled to let the broader jazz world know what we’re up to. And, we’re glad that existing Groupmuse community members who love jazz can now encounter our upcoming events in the same place they might also look for jazz club listings.

We give special thanks to Michael Ricci of All About Jazz and Jazz Near You for helping form this partnership. It’s all too rare in the music industry to see mutually beneficial synergies among organizations. But, if we all work together when possible, we can create greater opportunities for artists and audiences.

About Groupmuse

Groupmuse seeks to uplift artists and strengthen broader community bonds through live, intimate performances of historically-rooted music. It connects hosts with musicians around the world to present concerts in non-traditional spaces, like living rooms and backyards. Groupmuse is not only free for hosts, but also provides fulfilling performance opportunities to musicians, guaranteeing pay transparency and a $100 minimum payment for every groupmuse they play. In 2020, out of solidarity with Black Lives Matter, the team decided to broaden Groupmuse’s focus from Western classical music to encompass all music traditions of the world, specifically including jazz. Groupmuse is pleased to partner with All About Jazz to help support and nurture jazz musicians and communities.
