Gary Burton's Vibe
I met with the legendary vibraphonist Gary Burton last night to put together a video piece on his upcoming Mack Ave recording Common Ground. From what I heard this looks to be a truly great album and showcases Gary's newly formed quartet featuring Julian Lage (guitar), Scott Colley (bass) and Antonio Sanchez (drums). While we were hanging out we flashed back to his 1973 ECM label debut album The New Quartet, which is a personal favorite of mine, and which I consider to be required listening for any serious jazz fan. We'll be sharing that resulting video with you soon as well. In the meantime, your homework is to fully digest this recording and report back.
