Jane is an amazing musical force of nature, with a gorgeous voice that can do anything she wants it to do... Clint is such a soulful singer, and he has such range where he can be so playful and spontaneous with his performance, and it’s a beautiful thing.
Frank Wildhorn, Composer/Producer
Frank & Friends: Live in Las Vegas with Jane Monheit and Clint Holmes captures a memorable evening at The Smith Center's Cabaret Jazz, now known as Myron's. The album showcases Wildhorn's diverse catalogue, drawing from his musical theatre and pop compositions, arranged in a dynamic jazz style for the first time, creating these expertly and movingly interpreted performances by the stellar vocal talents of Monheit and Holmes. Wildhorn expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Myron Martin is a dear friend of mine who runs The Smith Center in Las Vegas, a beautiful temple built for theatre and music. There is a jazz club inside the Smith Center that’s now called Myron’s which is a fun place to play. Jane Monheit and Clint Holmes are two of the best singers of songs in the world, and Myron gave us a shot to not only play together, but to do an evening of my songs and to record them for audio and video. It was a great opportunity and a wonderful experience.” On the selection of songs, Wildhorn added, “The songs we selected are from my own jazz, theatre, and pop catalogue—songs I thought would bring out the best of Jane and Clint, and they delivered the songs so beautifully.” The album highlights the remarkable chemistry between Wildhorn, Monheit and Holmes. Wildhorn says, “Jane is an amazing musical force of nature, with a gorgeous voice that can do anything she wants it to do. She has her own special way in interpreting a lyric that makes her a wonderful storyteller.” Of Holmes, Wildhorn continues, “Clint is a brother, and we have made music together for a long time. He is such a soulful singer, and he has such range where he can be so playful and spontaneous with his performance, and it’s a beautiful thing.” When their voices unite, Wildhorn notes, “Jane and Clint are both the ultimate musicians, so when they come together on stage, it’s fireworks.”
For Wildhorn, this album signifies a meaningful return to his roots. He began his career playing jazz in Hollywood, FL, in the 1970s, fostering a deep appreciation for, the freedom, the soulfulness, the sensuality of being in that world.” On recording this music with Monheit and Holmes, Wildhorn continues, “It takes me back to my roots and it’s something I want to do much more of in the future.” Myron Martin, the namesake of the venue, is heralded by Wildhorn as “a great impresario, with a keen talent for bringing artists together. His club in Las Vegas is a great gig and a wonderful place to play. He’s the man!!” Both Jane Monheit and Clint Holmes are working on new albums with Frank Wildhorn, promising more exciting collaborations in the future.
Monheit shared, “Working with Frank and Clint is of course a professional dream come true, but what I couldn't have predicted was the long, beautiful friendships that we’ve made…there’s just so much love and care for each other in the music, and that makes it truly special.” Having worked with Frank Wildhorn for years, I was no stranger to his genius, but between his songs, Jane's brilliant vocals and the magic of Myron's at the Smith Center, this show was pure joy and I'm so glad we captured it all for this great album," Clint Holmes added.
