About Ermesc Gonzalez
Born on April 1976 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. As a child he had the privilege of growing up surrounded by some of the best musicians that Puerto Rico had on those days and the exciting opportunity of listening and learning from them. By the time he entered high school his interest for the guitar was starting to show and his passion for Latin percussion instruments was also present.
His beginnings as a music student was on the self-taught" side, learning and searching for the knowledge of harmony, improvisation and technique; this was the same for the guitar as for the congas". His perseverance and dedication helped him land a series of good expositions as a guitarist and percussionist.
Later on, he decided to complete a Bachelor degree in music, which he got from the Inter-American University of PR .
After achieving this he moved to New York where he studied under the guidance of renowned jazz guitarist Paul Bollenback and completed a M.A. in jazz performance with honors from the Aaron's Copland School of Music(CUNY). During his years in New York, Ermesc started exploring with complex harmony compositions but at the same time the compositions had to be melodically exquisite to the listener.
In 2007 Ermesc returns to PR and starts to work as a faculty member of the music department at the Inter-American University of PR.
By 2009 he opens a web page named GuitarraPR.com; this site is a great tool for every Spanish speaking person who wants to learn how to play acoustic or electric guitar.
The same year of 2009 served as the year when Ermesc recorded his first album Introspection" as a soloist and composer in the jazz trio format.
