ABOUT THE ARTISTS

TROMBONE SHORTY & ORLEANS AVENUE

Since the release of their Grammy®-nominated 2010 debut album, Backatown, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue have grown creatively while winning hordes of new fans performing nonstop on five continents. Their new album, For True, offers substantive proof of the group's explosive growth and was rewarded with a #1 debut on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart. Troy “Trombone Shorty" Andrews is hailed by The New York Times as “a native prodigy destined for breakout success" and by The San Francisco Chronicle as “New Orleans' brightest new star in a generation." Andrews has also been a featured guest musician on the latest releases from Eric Clapton, Lenny Kravitz, Jeff Beck and Galactic.

Mindi Abair & FRIENDS FEATURING Jeff Golub AND DAVID PACK

“[Mindi's] ability to connect with the crowd and appeal to jazz fans as well as those who aren't as familiar with her makes her such an exciting artist..." -Josh Groban Saxophonist/singer/songwriter MINDI ABAIR joins blues/jazz guitarist JEFF GOLUB and singer/guitarist/songwriter DAVID PACK from the hit-making group Ambrosia for a one-of-a-kind performance. Their eclectic mix of musical styles and talents creates a fun, memorable chemistry between the three musicians. Enjoy Mindi Abair's funky jazz-meets-pop from her latest vinyl-inspired release In Hi-Fi Stereo, plus successful solo artist and former Rod Stewart guitarist Jeff Golub's jazz and blues influences, and David Pack's hits such as “You're the Only Woman" as well as his sought-after experience producing tracks for artists including Michael McDonald and Brian McKnight.

Kyle Eastwood

Jazz provided the soundtrack to bassist/composer Kyle Eastwood's childhood. The eldest son of actor Clint Eastwood, his annual family outing to the Monterey Jazz Festival and father's affinity for the genre helped Kyle realize that jazz was his true passion. Kyle worked as a well-respected session player in the 1990's and released his solo debut From Here to There in 1998. Since then, Kyle has released four critically-acclaimed albums (most recently 2011's Songs From the Chateau), toured worldwide, and composed music and soundtracks for several Clint Eastwood films, including Flags of Our Fathers, Gran Torino, and Invictus, as well as Academy Award®-winning films Letters from Iwo Jima, Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby. Eastwood received a Golden Globe® nomination for Best Original Song in a Motion Picture for Gran Torino.

Jake Shimabukuro

It's rare for a young musician to earn comparisons to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis. It's even harder to find an artist who has entirely redefined an instrument by his early thirties. But Jake Shimabukuro has already accomplished these feats, and more, in a little over a decade of playing and recording music...on the ukulele. His latest release 'Peace Love Ukulele' debuted at #1 on the Billboard World Album Chart and mixes jazz, rock, classical, traditional Hawaiian music, and folk...utterly unique in the music world. The New York Times recently noted his “buoyant musicianship" and “brisk proficiency," adding, “the innovation in his style stems from an embrace of restrictions: the ukulele has only four strings and a limited range. He compensates with an adaptable combination of rhythmic strumming, classical-style finger-picking and fretboard tapping."

Earl Klugh with Jeffrey Osborne

GRAMMY®-winning guitarist EARL KLUGH's career of more than three decades includes over 200 compositions, more than 30 full-length albums, hosting and producing his own events, work in film and numerous world tours. Klugh's work has earned him 12 career Grammy nominations and he has been hailed by The New York Times,..."a guitarist with impeccable technique." Earl always enjoys presenting a unique concert experience at Weekend of Jazz and this year he will feature R&B balladeer Jeffrey Osborne during his performance. Osborne has recorded five gold and platinum albums over his career, and has delighted audiences worldwide with his hits including “On the Wings of Love" “Stay With Me Tonight" and “Don't You Get So Mad."
