Robert Jr. Lockwood - Steady Rollin' Man - Delmark DD 630
The blues world recently lost one of its greatest elder statesmen Robert Jr. Lockwood. Lockwood's music shows the influence of not only his stepfather, Robert Johnson, but also that of jazz guitarists Charlie Christian and Eddie Durham. By the mid 50s, he found himself in the enviable position of being THE studio guitar player in Chicago recording on Chess with Little Walter and Sonny Boy Williamson. He also recorded with Muddy Waters, Otis Spann, and countless others. On this 1970 recording, Lockwood is accompanied by The Aces Louis (guitar) and Dave Myers (bass) and Fred Below (drums). This 1970 classic recording was Lockwood's 1st album as leader!
Eddie 'Cleanhead' Vinson - Kidney Stew Is Fine - Delmark DD 631
Eddie Vinson was a blues shouter extraordinaire in the style of Big Joe Turner and Wynonie Harris. Always an outstanding alto saxophonist, Vinson played jazz and blues with equal vigor. The improvisational skills learned from his years as a jazz musician combined with his traditional vocal style helped him achieve the status of an American original. With T-Bone Walker (guitar), Jay McShann (piano) and Hal Singer (tenor sax), this exciting 1969 session features 10 songs including Juice Head Baby, Just A Dream, I'm In An Awful Mood, and more classics! Dedicated to the recently departed Jay McShann.
Joseph Jarman - As If It Were The Seasons - Delmark DD 417
After illness removed pianist Christopher Gaddy from reedist Joseph Jarman's quartet, Joseph carried on with the exciting rhythm team of bassist Charles Clark and drummer Thurman Barker. For concerts, Joseph frequently invited guests as demonstrated by the addition of vocalist Sherri Scott for the first pieces on this CD. Gaddy's death prompted Joseph's composition Song For Christopher, based on incomplete notations by the pianist. Joseph invited additional guests to realize the music for this 1968 recording, including Muhal Richard Abrams (piano, oboe), Fred Anderson (tenor sax) and John Stubblefield (tenor sax). 2007 remixed and remastered from the original analog master tapes!
The Dixie Stompers - At Westminster College - Delmark DE 204
This 1957 recording has not been available since the original LP issue which has been out of print for decades. Traditional jazz at its best the new CD version has many never before issued bonus tracks. Live in Fulton, Missouri- The Dixie Stompers are Bill Mason, cornet; Norman Mason, clarinet; Jim Haislip, trombone; Glenn Tintera and John Chapman, piano; Pete Patterson, banjo; Bob Kornacher, drums. Heebie Jeebies, Dippermouth Blues, Doctor Jazz, Aint Misbehavin, and many more.

Blues harmonica legend Carey Bell (voc, harp) created his own style after learning from the masters - Big Walter Horton, Little Walter Jacobs and Sonny Boy Williamson II. A veteran of both Muddy Waters' and Willie Dixon's bands, Carey Bell is on the short list of today's blues harmonica superstars. Carey celebrated his 70th birthday just after this recording and is still going strong. Lurrie Bell, (voc, guitar) Carey's eldest son, has recorded a handful of albums with his father, starting with 1977's Heartaches and Pain (Delmark 666). Since the release of Mercurial Son (Delmark 679), Lurrie's first Delmark CD, the amazing guitarist has also become a superstar dazzling audiences around the world. Rob Mazurek (cornet, electronics, percussion) and Chad Taylor (percussion) have been the heart and soul of the Chicago Underground groups for over a decade. Bassist Jason Ajemian makes his debut in the Chicago Underground Trio bringing a wide range of musical influences to the table. ...the trios music is never frenetic: it is lapidary in its precision. With painterly splashes of organ and electronics, it casts a nocturnal spectral glow.-New York Times Filmmaker Raymond Salvatore Harmon created a live mix of color and images projected during the performance that forms a framework for the visually shifting landscapes of sound and light presented in the film. Often verging into the realm of the psychedelic, both sonically and visually, Chronicle is unlike any music performance film made to date.

With special guests Ernest Dawkins (alto sax, percussion) and Joseph Bowie (trombone, percussion). The Infinity Orchestra is based in the city of Bordeaux, capital of Aquitaine, France where Kahil ElZabar (percussion) leads it in concert at the National Theater of Bordeaux and teaches two months each year at the Academy of Music. He began his Aquitaine adventures in 1980 when he brought his Ethnic Heritage Ensemble to the Bordeaux Jazz Festival. The student who booked him then, Patrick Duvall, became a sociologist; twenty years later, as the director of the Musique De Nuit organization, Duvall invited him to become their artist in residence at Bordeaux. With his French, 39-piece Infinity Orchestra, ElZabar presents bold compositions to challenge and enhance his improvisers.
The Jazz O'Maniacs - Sunset Cafe Stomp Live! - Delmark DVD 1244, CD DE 244
This traditional jazz group from Hamburg. Germany came to Meyers Ace Hardware on 35th Street in Chicago to perform at what was once the famous jazz club, Sunset Caf, where Louis Armstrong played in the 30s. The building is an official Chicago landmark and still contains some of the original wall murals. Delmark recorded and videotaped the event, as well as the Jazz O'Maniacs live at Bixfest in Racine, Wisconsin later the same week.
