Swedish pianist Daniel Stahre (Gothenburg) releases his new melodic and elegant Margin Call III album and returns with a blend of jazz, pop, and folk music. On record, he once again collaborates with the renowned Swedish musicians Erik Bodin and Viktor Turegård

Margin Call III

With his elegant and deeply personal music on Margin Call III, Stahre contrasts our current performance-oriented economic system. Embedded in his melodic tunes, he reminds us that the current system is a historical exception, and that we for much longer had a different view of what it means to be human:"Today's mechanistic view of humanity shapes our entire contemporary world, sometimes our view of music too. But in the deeply human, playful and intuitive, there is a refuge from today's self-exploitation. The Margin Call theme draws inspiration from seeing the present 'for what it is' in order to understand, change, and emancipate. Yet coexisting with the warmth and simplicity of ordinary people's lives. Where real life happens—that is a great source of inspiration," says Daniel Stahre.

A spacious and playful jazz trio

On the two previous albums, the music was recorded in a quartet format with an electric guitarist, but this time it’s just piano, drums, and bass.“I agree with Bill Evans, in that the trio format allows for a more open and playful soundscape”, says Stahre.

Margin Call III was playfully produced and recorded live at the internationally acclaimed pop band Little Dragon’s studio in Gothenburg, Sweden by Erik Bodin and carefully mastered by Kristofer Göranssons. Isis Maakestad is the cover artist painter for the album and the entire album series, and Johan Stahre is the photographer for the photo. The album is released wordwide on all streaming services and on limited vinyl Friday 18th of September 2026.

The Margin Call Series

The Margin Call album series consists of three personal and melodic albums (2022, 2024, 2026) that draw inspiration from a single theme: the encounter between the system and the individual. Inspiration is drawn from the irrational and existential coexistence of a confusing present-time and the personal life.

About Daniel 'Starling' Stahre

Classically trained Swedish modern jazz pianist and songwriter Daniel Stahre has released five albums; Notes (Strangers Candy, 2014), Skenet (with poet Sara Paborn, 2017), Margin Call (AMP Music & Records, 2022), the self-released Margin Call II (dimbank, 2024) and Margin Call III (dimbank, 2026).

During the 2010’s, Daniel participated and played in the Stockholm indie pop scene with bands such as Grapell, Humfree Bug Art and Many Voices Speak. With inspiration from instrumental pop, yet progressive and rooted in the Nordic folk music, the songs resonates with the Swedish legacy of Bo Hansson, Björn J:son Lindh and Dungen (Arbetarbladet, 2015)
