Mixtapes have come a long way.

For evidence of this draw your attention to the Coast 2 Coast New Music Convention, scheduled for August 27-29 at the Newport Beachside Hotel and Resort in Miami, Florida.

August might not be the ideal time to visit Miami, but those who can stand the heat will have a chance to schmooze with people from all areas of urban music. The networking event for music industry professionals has been put together by mixtape site coast2coast.com. It will feature presentations covering a variety of topics including marketing, promotion, new media, industry etiquette, production tips, and music monetization. Panelists include producers and artists, along with representatives from every major urban website and record label.

Head here to register for the event, where you can also review the updated schedule and list of panelists, partners and sponsors.

According to their site, coast2coast mixtapes are the most downloaded in the world. They release a free mixtape by a major artist every week, and have grown into the largest urban promotion network on the planet.
