The award-winning jazz drummer, Charlie Harrington, has been invited to audition for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as a percussionist. Under the musical direction of the world-renowned Maestro Riccardo Muti, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1891, is considered to be one of the finest in the world.

Charlie's playing technique is recognized as being superlative as are his mastery of rudiments. Additionally, he was classically trained as a percussionist as a child and his ability to play all genres of music with aplomb, including classical, no doubt played a significant role in the invitation being extended. Art Blakey is noted for stating, “Jazz is the highest level of execution on an instrument." The tradition of excellent jazz musicians being recognized for the mastery of their instrument continues with this invitation.
