Cellar Live Comes to NYC November 10th and 11th at Fat Cat

Cellar Live, a Canadian based record label run out of the infamous Cellar Restaurant/Jazz Club, is coming to New York City. On November 10th and 11th at Greenwich Village's Fat Cat, Cellar Live will present the Uptown Quintet with the Chad Makela Quartet (November 10th) and Ugetsu (November 11th). The Vancouver-based Chad Makela Quartet released their debut CD Flicker in April of 2006 and has received rave reviews.

Live at The Cellar released earlier this year has been a hit in Canada and Japan. “The artists afford themselves ample breathing room while also emphasizing melodic reconstruction. Headlining the showcase will be New York's own Uptown Quintet, featuring fiery trumpter Ryan Kisor (Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra), alto saxophonist Ian Henrickson-Smith (Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings) and pianist Spike Wolner. This quintet of 30 somethings is steeped in the hard bop tradition. Their debut record Live in New York, released this year, has been a huge hit in Japan and has received incredible reviews across North America and Europe.
