Lakefront Digital is proud to announce the release of Farragut by the Lucky 7s. Farragut was recorded live at The Hungry Brain, and Enemy, in Chicago in March of 2006, and features original compositions by Jeb Bishop, Jeff Albert, and Matthew Golombisky.

Lucky 7s is the brainchild of Jeb Bishop and Jeff Albert. In September 2005, shortly after Hurricane Katrina blew through Jeff's hometown of New Orleans, Jeb and Jeff were discussing the future. Jeff wanted to try to book some gigs for his group in the Chicago area, since it seemed that the regular New Orleans creative scene would be out of sorts for quite some time. Jeb suggested a co-op project with some Chicago musicians along with players from the New Orleans scene. Lucky 7s is the result of that conversation.

Trombonist Jeb Bishop, cornetist Josh Berman, saxophonist Keefe Jackson, and vibraphonist Jason Adasiewicz have been active players in the vibrant Chicago jazz/improvisational scene for some time. Trombonist Jeff Albert, drummer Quin Kirchner, and bassist Matthew Golombisky were all active on the budding Frenchmen Street scene in New Orleans prior to Hurricane Katrina. After the New Orleans musician diaspora that was a result of the hurricane, Quin and Matthew eventually landed on the musically fertile ground of Chicago. Jeff is still living in the New Orleans area.

The band met to rehearse and perform in Chicago for a week in February/March of 2006. Three of the performances were recorded, and this CD is a product of those recordings. Five more pieces that were recorded that week, but are not included on this CD are being offered as free Creative Commons licensed downloads on the band's website (http://lucky7s.org).

The Lucky 7s will be celebrating the release of Farragut with performances at The Chicago Jazz Festival on September 3, The Velvet Lounge on September 5, and Elastic on September 6.
