The Borneo Jazz 2012 was launched last Wednesday (Jan 11) in the capital city of Kuching, eastern part of Malaysia. The 7th edition of Borneo Jazz will be held in Miri city from May 11-12, 2012.
This year's Borneo Jazz will be an exciting one and up to date, eight groups has been confirmed to be on state and they are; New Cool Collective (Netherlands), Schalk Joubert's 3 Continents Sextet (South Africa), Nita Aartsen (Indonesia), SLIXS (Germany), Koh Mr Saxman and Takeshi Band (Thailand), Tangora (France), Tropic Green (Singapore) and F.V.E. Project (Malaysia) featuring a range of jazz genres.
The Malaysian state's tourism promotional body, Sarawak Tourism Board hopes to attract a crowd of at least 9000 for the two nights event with a third of visitors from outside Sarawak. Tourism Board hopes to augur well for the local business and also contribute significantly to the arrival figures to the state. Tickets priced at USD$20 (RM60) for adults and USD$10 (RM30) for children and will be available online at jazzborneo.com from February 1, 2012.
As the organiser, Sarawak Tourism Board is currently collaborating with the private sector to design packages to attract visitors from neighbouring Brunei and Singapore as well as from the region and overseas. The packages will offer visitors to enjoy the festival and at the same time to travel to some interesting places around the city. The state of Sarawak is home to some of the world's largest caves and it is quite near to Miri city.
