Lincoln Center Talk and Julliard Honors for Billy Taylor
It's a busy February for Dr. Billy Taylor. His website is featuring his three part suite for Dr. Martin Luther King, Peaceful Warrior. Hal Leonard has released his book, Billy Taylor Piano Styles, which brings Billy's diverse piano to life via technical analyses of bebop, boogie-woogie, Dixieland and mambo. On March 14th, Lewis Porter will host Jazz at Lincoln Center's Jazz Talk with Billy Taylor, a special interview and performance. And on February 27th, Billy receives the Julliard School of Music's Presidential Medal in recognition of his contribution to Jazz, America's Classical Music.
Peaceful Warrior
Dr. Billy Taylor's three part suite dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King, Peaceful Warrior, is being featured on his website in celebration of Black History Month. Website visitors can listen to the three movements of Peaceful Warrior Suite (It's a Matter of Pride, His Name Was Martin and, Heritage: If You Really Are Concerned Then Show It, individually, or watch a video. Bret Primack produced the video, which utilizes the third movement of Peaceful Warrior as the musical backdrop for a thirteen-minute portrait of Dr. King that includes rare archival video from the 50s and 60s, along with memorable photographs.

Hal Leonard Publishing has released Billy Taylor Piano Styles, a reissue of three books Billy did in the late 40s. This edition brings together Billy Taylor's diverse piano-playing styles to life via technical analyses of be-bop, boogie-woogie, Dixieland and mambo, as well as several complete Billy Taylor solos.

On Wednesday, March 14th at 7pm, Dr. Lewis Porter will host a very special interview and performance with Dr. Billy Taylor at the Irene Diamond Education Center. Jazz Talk features noted jazz musicians, historians, and writers sharing research and insight into jazz history and contemporary issues and this edition will focus Billy's remarkable career as pianist, composer, broadcaster and educator.
Juilliard Jazz's Jazz Legends Tribute
Juilliard Jazz's Tribute to Jazz Legends," a special evening on Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at 8 PM in The Peter Jay Sharp Theater at Juilliard pays tribute to jazz artists James Moody, Dr. Billy Taylor, Clark Terry, and Joe Wilder, all of whom will be in attendance. Each will perform with the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra or with Juilliard Jazz student musicians in ensemble. Juilliard President Joseph W. Polisi will present these five Jazz Legends with the Juilliard President's Medal in recognition of their contributions to jazz. The President's Medal was created during Juilliard's centennial season and was designed by longtime friend of the School, artist Milton Glaser.
