POLAND'S ASTONISHING YOUNG JAZZ SINGER
AGA ZARYAN
AT BLUES ALLEY
WITH SONGS FROM HER ACCLAIMED NEW CD

Poland's emerging jazz star Aga Zaryan is coming back to the US with two concerts at Blues Alley on Wednesday, January 10, at 8 & 10 PM. The concerts are presented by the Polish Cultural Institute in New York. In March 2006 Aga recorded her second album Pickung Up the Pieces with Darek 'Oles' Oleszkiewicz (the music producer of the project), Larry Koonse, Munyungo Jackson, and Nolan Shaheed. The album got rave reviews in Poland. At Blues Alley - and on January 11 at Joe's Pub in New York City - Aga Zaryan, “the New Hope of the Polish jazz vocal scene" (Jazz Forum), who first took Poland by storm as Agnieszka Skrzypek, is promoting her new CD with back-up by New York jazz artists Bryn Roberts on piano, Alexis Cuadrado on double bass, and Mark Ferber on drums.

Aga Zaryan (previously performing as Agnieszka Skrzypek) graduated with honors from the Warsaw Public School of Music, and then studied under the legendary Ewa Bem in the Department of Jazz Song Studies at the Bednarska Street Music School in Warsaw. In 1998 she took second place at the International Jazz Singers Competition in Zamosc, subsequently receiving scholarships to attend two international jazz workshops in the United States - the Stanford Jazz Workshop and Jazz Camp West, where she gained further knowledge under the instruction of such internationally recognized vocalists as Rebecca Parris and Madeline Eastman.

Her debut album, My Lullaby (2002) received great reviews in Poland, as well as Japan, where it was officially released. It was nominated for the Polish Recording Academy's “Fryderyk" Award, in the “Jazz Album of the Year" category. Since then, Aga has performed at clubs and festivals in Poland, the USA, Israel, England, and the Czech Republic. Readers of Jazz Forum magazine voted her one of the best polish jazz singers of the year ("Jazz Top 2004", Jazz Forum, Feb. 2005).
