Yaniv Taubenhouse

Yaniv Taubenhouse is an internationally acclaimed jazz pianist and composer based in New York City. He has performed and recorded extensively throughout the United States and abroad, earning recognition for his lyrical approach, expressive touch, and distinctive artistic voice.

His debut album as a leader, Here from There, featuring drummer Darren Novotny and bassist Garrett Jones, was released on Fresh Sound Records in 2014 to critical acclaim, introducing his unique voice as both a pianist and composer.

Since its formation in 2014, the Yaniv Taubenhouse Trio—featuring bassist Rick Rosato and drummer Jerad Lippi—has become one of his primary creative outlets. The trio has released three critically acclaimed albums in its Moments in Trio series on Fresh Sound: Volume One, Perpetuation (Volume Two), and Roads (Volume Three). The fourth installment, Circles (Volume Four), is scheduled for release on November 13, 2026, on Fresh Sound. The trio also collaborated with French jazz vocalist Sarah Eden on Ailleurs…, released by Plaza Mayor Company Ltd.

In 2022, Taubenhouse released his first solo piano album, HOPE, on Fresh Sound. Featuring original compositions alongside music by Kenny Wheeler, Cole Porter, Henry Mancini, and Thelonious Monk, the album was praised for its lyricism, intimacy, and expressive depth.

Born in Israel, Taubenhouse began studying piano at the age of six. He graduated from Thelma Yellin High School of the Arts in Tel Aviv and studied classical piano with Assaf Zohar, Hanna Shalgi, and Benjamin Oren. In 2009, he moved to the United States to further his musical education, studying with Pavlina Dokovska and Jura Margulis. His artistic development was also shaped through lessons with Richard Goode, Sonia Rubinsky, Brad Mehldau, Joanne Brackeen, and Sam Yahel.

Taubenhouse attended The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music on scholarship, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Performance. Since establishing himself as an active presence on the New York jazz scene, he has continued to perform, record, and tour internationally as a pianist, composer, bandleader, and collaborator.

Yaniv Taubenhouse: Hope

Read "Hope" reviewed by Mike Jurkovic

by Mike Jurkovic

In the liner notes to Hope, Yaniv Taubenhouse's eloquently stated solo venture, the young pianist goes a long way to explain what brought him to the music he generously bequeaths us here. How one key besets the next and so on. How one tone leads to another and another. It might enhance the listening experience for some but, truth be simply told, listening repeatedly to Hope is all you need to gain insight to Taubenhouse's serene tone and intent.

Remember the excitement you first felt drawing circles as a kid? That profoundly innocent sense of being able to construct anything inside, outside, on, or upon those circles? Faces, trees, noses. Birds. bees, roses. A wide, westward, indigo sky. A fathomless blue ocean of liquid imagination. That's what it's like when you fully and gratefully engage with NYC based pianist/composer Yaniv Taubenhouse's third go round Moments In Trio Volume Three: Roads. With his fiercely limber rhythm mates, bassist ...

Moments In Trio Volume Three: Roads represents the third trip around the sun for Yaniv Taubenhouse's piano trio, featuring Rick Rosato and Jerad Lippi. It's also the group's most refined offering to date. Borrowing from the bold and confident spirit of Moments in Trio Volume One (Fresh Sound New Talent, 2015) and reabsorbing the nimble interplay and lyrical subtleness that characterized the trio's second crack Moments in Trio Volume Two (2018), this moment in trio combines the adventurous spirit of ...

Yaniv Taubenhouse Trio: Perpetuation: Moments In Trio Volume Two

Read "Perpetuation: Moments In Trio Volume Two" reviewed by Dan McClenaghan

Anyone with an antenna out for an exciting, new(ish) piano trio would do well to give Yaniv Taubenhouse a listen. The Israeli-born and now New York-based pianist offers up his third recording, tagged Perpetuation: Moments In Trio Volume Two, bringing to mind Brad Mehldau's five Art of the Trio recordings on Warner Brothers Records, released between 1997 and 2001. Taubenhouse studied with Mehldau, and the disc's opening title tune has a Mehldau-ian feel, with a persistent but understated ...

"The range of atmospheres and emotions in the poetry of Yaniv Taubenhouse’s music is astounding. Rarely and only once or twice in a lifetime do you get to hear a musician and a pianist who is as sensitive as Taubenhouse to the voice of the heart, the breadth of human emotion and its relationship with the whisper of nature, and its roar as well." – Raul da Gama, Jazz da Gama

“ . . . Taubenhouse is, above all, a seductive pianist. He pursues lavish beauty unashamedly. For him, technical elements serve emotional, spiritual, and atmospheric purposes . . . Taubenhouse can cast a spell like Abdullah Ibrahim, but his energy is edgier . . . Remember his name. His present is intriguing. His future could be more so.” – Thomas Conrad, JazzTimes Magazine
